Gerd Mueller set a record when he scored 85 goals for club and country in a calendar year. He scored 72 goals for Bayern and 13 for Germany in 1972. He was 27 when he set it. Barcelona forward Messi leveled the record when he scored first goal in the 16th minute. He picked up the ball in a central position and scored with an angled goal in the bottom right corner. 10 minutes later 25-year-old surpassed the phenomenal 40-year-old mark. of centuries. Sachin Tendulkar on Friday became the first batsman in history to score 100 international centuries, adding another milestone in his record-breaking career. Tendulkar, who turns 39 next month, achieved the feat when he recorded his 49th one-day century in the Asia Cup match against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Dhaka. He has 51 Test hundreds. The Mumbai batsman, who has compiled more Test and one-day runs than anyone in history, reached the record with a single, marking the moment with a modest glance to the sky while pointing to the Indian flag on his helmet. Tendulkar is the most capped player in the history of the game with 188 Test and 462 one-day appearances since making his debut against Pakistan in Karachi in November, 1989. Millions of fans in India and across the cricketing world endured an anxious year-long wait before Tendulkar finally reached the landmark in the four-nation tournament, the symbol of one-day supremacy in the continent. After 33 innings and over a year, Tendulkar finally got to the elusive ton. It took him 138 deliveries, one of the most arduos one-day efforts by the 38- year-old right-hander, to get to the 100 that had become as much a talking point as the team's fortunes in the past 365 days. The bowler against whom it came about was Shakib Al Hasan and the moment was the fourthdelievry of the 43rd over of Indian innings. Tendulkar clipped it down to square leg and jogged the single, gave a long hard stare to his bat after taking off his helmet before looking heavenward in his signature style. What was missing was emotion. The diminutive batsman, the most successful batsman in internationla cricket right now, kept it subdued. He shook hands with Suresh Raina, his partner at the other end, and raised his bat to acknowledge the cheering fans with a straight face giving little insight into what was going on his mind amid the drama. But the teammates in the dressing room were as expressive as they could be as they all got up from their seats to applaud the veteran as he added another feather to an already overcrowded cap. However, reaching the milestone was no easy task for the player who often makes batting look effortless. After getting what several former cricketers called a monkey off his back, Tendulkar was dismissed by Mashrafe Mortaza off the second last delivery of the 47th over. The 114-run knock was incidentally Tendulkar's maiden century against Bangladesh. Upon his dismissal, the Bangladeshi players expectedly gave him a round of applause as he walked back to pavillion with fans cheering him on. His Indian teammates and coach Duncan Fletcher received him at the boundary lauding the iconic player. Source: Article. in Tennis history man. Roger Federer set an impossible world record to be the most weeks on top of the
ATP rankings. Roger Federer surpassed Pete Sampras to set a new record for the most weeks on top of the ATP rankings. After claiming his seventh Wimbledon title a week ago, Federer returned to the top for the first time since June 2010. All-in-all, the Swiss star has been the best tennis player for 287 weeks, one more than Sampras, whose record looked almost unreachable ten years ago. Federer will enter the London Olympics next week as the world's top-ranked player, which means he could prolong his reign at least until the beginning of August. The 17-time Grand Slam champion says he's“extremely proud and honored to have beaten Pete's record as he was my childhood hero and I have always looked up to him.” While AP quotes Sampras as saying that “the hardest thing to do in sports is the ability to stay on top. Roger has been able to do so by great play and durability.” Another former tennis king, Russia’s Marat Safin also believes the Swiss player’s achievement is well-deserved. “Roger has long been the best player in all aspects of play. He beat the likes of Sampras and [Andre] Agassi. His play is just excellent,” Safin told the Sovsport paper. Source: Article. In world's all time track and field events Usain Bolt seals legendary status with unique double. Usain St. Leo Bolt is a Jamaican sprinter widely regarded as the fastest person ever. He is the first man to hold both the 100 metres and 200 metres world records since fully automatic time measurements becamemandatory in 1977. Usain Bolt made history when the Jamaican successfully defended his london Olympic 200m crown to claim an unprecedented second successive sprint double. Bolt, who retained his 100m title, crossed the line in 19.32sec to win in front of a delirious sell-out 80,000 crowd at the Olympic Stadium. The 25-year-old's victory meant he bettered the record of US track legend Carl Lewis, who won three golds and a silver in the sprints at the 1984 and 1988 Games. It was also the first time two individual track titles were successfully defended at successive Games since Finland's Lasse Viren won the 5000m and 10,000m in the Munich and Montreal Games in 1972 and 1976. Bolt led a Jamaican clean sweep of the podium, with training partner Yohan Blake taking silver in 19.44sec and Warren Weir claiming a shock bronze in 19.84sec. Running in lane seven, Bolt was up on Weir outside him within five paces after an explosive start. As he rounded the bend, Blake briefly threatened from lane four, but teeth clenched and at full tilt, Bolt had enough to slow down a full 10 metres from the line, raising his finger to his lips as he did so. He set the first world records of the London Olympics, breaking his own record in the 72-arrow mark and helping South Korea set a team record during Friday's ranking round. Im broke the 72-arrow record he had set in Turkey in May by three points with a score of 699, hours before the 2012 Games official Opening Ceremony. Despite the success, Im was modest in his reaction. "This is just the first round, so I will not get too excited by it," he said. He combined with Kim Bub Min and Oh Jin Hyek, smashing the record for 216 arrows with a total 2,087. That was 18 better than the mark South Korea set in May. Team coach Jang Young Sool said the team would rest up for the remainder of the day and prepare for Saturday. Im, 26, won gold medals in the team event in both the Beijing and Athens Olympics. He has only 10 percent vision in his left eye, and 20 percent in his right, meaning he is considered legally blind. He has said that when he looks at the targets, he sees colors with blurred lines between them. He does not wear glasses in competition, saying he relies on being able to distinguish between the bright colors of the target. Any spectators hoping to catch a glimpse of the action left angry and confused after being turned away from Lord's cricket ground where archery is being held. Preliminary rounds were listed as non-ticketed and several thousand spectators showed up at the venue expecting to get in for free. A spokeswoman for the London Games organizing committee said tickets were not advertised or sold for the qualifying events and "we have always made it clear" that the early competitions were not open for spectators. During the athletes senior year in high school the recruiting becomes intense. Coaches visit the player and his family. The player is taken on campus visits to the top programs across the nation with a full scholarship offer waiting for him. That is the beauty of it. Once you are in college, almost everyone starts on a level playing field. Nothing better describes the “American Way” than sports. Either step up and perform, or move out. You may have been a high school star, but you are in college now son. Through a students 4-year college playing career the stars of the college game are watched, studied and scouted by the 32 teams of the National Football League. line technology: London: FIFA have announced that final tests on goal-line technology will begin later this month, following Chelsea's 'ghost goal' against Tottenham in the semi-final of Football Association Cup on Sunday, when replays evidently showed that Juan Mata's strike had clearly not crossed the line, but still a goal was awarded. The International Football Association Board, the game's rule-making body, last month approved two systems to go into a second round of testing in match scenarios and a definitive decision is awaited in July. FIFA confirmed on Sunday that tests with Sony's Hawk-Eye, which uses camera-based-ball tracking and German-Danish Company, GoalRef, which adopts a magnetic field with a special ball, will be done which would commence before the end of April and continue throughout May, the Daily Mail reports. Both systems send a signal within a second, when the ball crosses the line to the referee, who retains the power to make the final call. In a statement released by FIFA, they said "The latest planning meeting for test phase two was held on Friday, and the second phase of tests will commence before end of April, and will continue throughout May." (ANI), Source: Article, On the other hand FIFA Loses Transparency: A corruption watchdog that was advising Fifa after a series of bribery and corruption scandals, has cut its ties
with world football's governing body. An official with Transparency International (TI) said two of its key recommendations had been ignored. TI said Fifa paying an expert to oversee major reforms to how it is run would jeopardise his independence. The expert, Mark Pieth, said he would not re-examine old scandals, another recommendation of TI. The move is being viewed by many as a blow to the credibility of Fifa's reform process, which has been led by its President Sepp Blatter, says BBC sports news correspondent Alex Capstick. Fifa has declined to comment on TI's move.'Not independent' Sylvia Schenk, TI's sports adviser, said Mr Pieth could not remain independent of Fifa if he was being paid by the organisation. "We believe that someone paid by Fifa cannot be a member of the independent commission [overseeing reforms]," Ms Schenk told the Press Association Sport news agency. "He has a contract with Fifa so he is not independent in that sense." Mr Pieth said it was common for firms to pay outside advisers to evaluate their business practices. "We can't start asking audit firms to do their job for free just to make sure they are independent," he told the Bloomberg news website. TI had been invited by Fifa to sit on an outside panel headed by Mr Pieth to advise on reforms. Fifa has been embroiled in scandals that have seen four members of Mr Blatter's ruling executive committee banned or resign over allegations of bribery. TI's involvement was seen as a key element in Mr Blatter's strategy to clean up Fifa. Source: Article, Earlier FIFA extends China match-

The Chinese Football Association's (CFA) disciplinary committee this month banned 33 people for life and a further 25 for five years for domestic match-fixing and bribery for cases going back to the 1990s. "The Chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has extended the sanctions to have worldwide effect," a FIFA statement said. "In taking those sanctions and notifying FIFA of them, the CFA has emphasised its on-going commitment to stamping out all forms of match-fixing and corruption in the game. football: Religious symbols will be banned at the stadiums in Poland during the European football championship - 2012. The new rules of conduct at the matches, worked out by the Polish Football Union, include toughening of requirements to religious attributes. Fans, trying to ignore the ban, risk missing football. The Bible and crosses were banned at Polish stadiums along with vuvuzelas. The public, especially religious people, did not approve of the news (let me remind you that Poland is one of the most religious countries in Europe). A human rights defender and the head of the Center of legal protection "Moscow - Russians" Michael Yoffe considers the struggle with religious symbols at Polish stadiums to be a political trend of the European Union countries. "I think, that Poland has decided to support the part of the European community, which believes that people come to the stadiums to root for their teams. It is not at all connected with religion. Such a restriction was introduced in connection with this. In this situation Poland took the side of the part of the European society, France for example, which had limited the wearing of hijab in public places, on the street, in schools, etc. Thus they support the European Union policy." Though in a way, the prohibition of religious objects at the stadiums is a unique act, but it is not the first restriction for the fans. The history of world football knows several cases when some objects were banned, Honoured Master of Sports, football columnist Eugene Lovchev tells. "It happened in Portugal. The Russian group played in a town of Faro, near the border with Spain. Around the stadium (and it was all sand and clay everywhere) there were some sheds, where we had to leave our cameras, bags and everything. The most interesting thing is that afterwards one had to stand in an enormous queue to get it all back." According to the experts, the new set of rules will not come into effect. And even if it is adopted, it will be thoroughly revised. In the opinion of Eugene Lovchev, the news of the ban on religious objects for Euro-2012 is another attempt of the Polish authorities to draw additional attention to the country in anticipation of the Championship. According to some data, under the pressure of public opinion the Polish football Federation is not so strict in their demands anymore. And taking into account that it is still more than two months left until the start of the final part of the European Championship, the attitude of the Polish football functionaries can change a lot.
