Amitabh Harivansh Bachchan (IPA: born 11 October 1942) is an Indian film actor. He first gained popularity in the early 1970s as the "angry young man" of Hindi cinema, and has since appeared in over 180 Indian films in a career spanning more than four decades. Bachchan  is  widely regarded  as  one  of  the  greatest and most influential actors in the history of Indian cinema. So total was his dominance of the movie  scene in the 1970s and 1980s that the French director Francois Truffaut called him a "one-man industry”. Bachchan has won numerous major awards in his career, including three National Film Awards as Best Actor (a record he shares with Kamal Hassan and Mammootty), a number of awards at international film festivals and award ceremonies and fourteen Filmfare Awards. He is the most-nominated performer in any major acting category at Filmfare, with 39 nominations overall. In addition to acting, Bachchan has worked as a playback singerfilm producer and television presenter. He also had a stint in politics in the 1980s. Bhushan in 2001 for his contributions towards the arts. Bachchan made his Hollywood debut in 2013 with The Great Gatsby, in which he played a non-Indian Jewish character, Meyer Wolfsheim. Early and personal life: Bachchan was born in  Allahabad,   Uttar   Pradesh,  in   north  central  India.  His father, was a  Hindi poet, and his mother, Teji Bachchan, was a Sikh from Faisalabad (now in Pakistan). Bachchan was initially named Inquilaab, inspired from the phrase made famous during the Indian independence struggle, Inquilab Zindabad, which means "long live revolution". However, at the suggestion of fellow poet Sumitranandan Pant, Harivansh Rai changed the name to Amitabh which means, "the light that would never go off." Though his surname was Shrivastava, his father had adopted the pen-name Bachchan (meaning "child-like" in colloquial Hindi), under which he published all his works. It is with this last name that Amitabh debuted in films, and, for all public purposes, it has become the surname of all members of his family. Bachchan's father died in 2003 and his mother in 2007. Amitabh is the elder of Harivansh Rai Bachchan's two sons, the second being Ajitabh. His mother had a keen interest in theatre and had been offered a role in a film, but preferred her domestic duties. She had some degree of influence in Bachchan's choice of career because sheAmitbh father and mother

always insisted that he should take the centre stage. Amitabh says, "I never thought as a child that I will enter films. When we went to see films in Allahabad, I never imagined that one day I'll be on the big screen." Amitabh began his studies in Allahabad and then went to Sherwood College, a boarding school in the hills of Nainital and it was at Sherwood that the young Amitabh found his passion for acting. Amitabh completed his formal education from Kirori Mal College of Delhi with double Master of Arts degrees from Delhi University. after graduating college that he decided to pursue a career as an entertainer. With his distinct baritone voice, his first instinct was to apply for a job as an announcer, but he was rejected by All India Radio. There After, Bachchan headed eastward to Calcutta to earn his livelihood. His first job was with Shaw Wallace and he later worked as a freight broker for the shipping firm Bird and Co. But considerations of livelihood and a regular pay at the end of the month was no compensation for what the heart desired. By 1968, young Amit had decided to give it all up, because Amitabh Bachchan wanted to spend his life doing what he wanted to do and he wanted to act. The tall and lanky young man boarded a train that took him to the city of opportunity and heartbreak. Bombay did not embrace its biggest creation to be with open arms. It was a ruthless place where dreams were bought and sold and where deification of a silver screen god masked the

plaintive call of a thousand broken hopes lying crushed on an unfeeling studio floor. His break came in 1969 when he was cast in Khwaja Ahmad Abbas’ Saat Hindustani, a mostly forgettable film that didn’t perform well at the box-office but still earned Bachchan the National Film Award for Best Newcomer of that year. It wasn’t long before his star began to rise, appearing in a seemingly endless stream of blockbusters that included Zanjeer, Deewar, Sholay and Amar, Akbar, Anthony. During this streak he was dubbed a One-Man Industry by the press. Yash Chopra brought out the actor in him. He was at his romantic best in Kabhi Kabhi and Silsila. In Silsila, his alleged romance with Rekha set the screen on fire but the box office didn't approve.
The two acted together and the reel-life chemistry they shared was stunning. And most people believe that bond was strong in real life, too. But did they ever share a love that could have shaken his marriage? We are still wondering about that one. It is not that there were no signs of ‘pyaar-vyaar’ between Rekha and begun on the sets of Do Anjaane, the film that debuted Rekha’s transformation from raw and fat South Indian starlet to polished and gorgeous B-town star and showed that Bachchan could indeed bring in the audiences. And success was a given after that, with Khoon Pasina, Ganga Ki Saugandh, Suhaag, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Ram Balram and Mr. Natwarlal, to name just a few. Many had already suspected that the couple was spending more time alone, away from the sets, with regular trysts off the sets, though no one who really knew all the facts has ever talked about it. The relationship, and the reactions to it from AB’s wife Jaya, were evocatively caught on celluloid in Silsila (1981), their last film together. It is said that Rekha realized that there was no future in it, since Jaya would not let Amitabh go, and she would always be the ‘other woman’, a story that her own mother’s life had already lived. The story goes that Rekha, inspired by the Hema Malini-Dharmendra love story and that “marriage” between the two, started flaunting gifts from Amitabh and turned up at a Bollywood wedding complete with sindoor and rings from her lover. Jaya is said to have asked her over to dinner one evening and

We take a look at Amitabh-Jaya’s life and some of the memorable films in which they were an onscreen couple". Their love story is as legendary as their fame and success in Bollywood. Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan have been married since June 3, 1973 and completed 40 years of togetherness today. What makes them so special? The two actors appeared in quite a few movies together, starting with Zanjeer (1973), which released in the year they got married and also helped Big B to get into the top league of Bollywood. In fact, it was to celebrate the film’s success in May that Amitabh and Jaya wanted to holiday abroad, when Big B’s parents insisted that they get married before the trip. And so, the wedding happened in June, and in July another classic film starring the two released. It was Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Abhimaan that dealt with ego clashes of a couple belonging to the same profession. Ironic! Last year, in an interview to Filmfare magazine on the occasion of Sr Bachchan’s 70th birthday and his 40 years in Bollywood, Jaya spoke fondly of the day when she saw Amitabh for the first time – it was at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune. “But I was introduced to him on the sets of Guddi. He was supposed to play the role eventually done by Samit Bhanja but Anandreleased and Hrishikesh Mukherjee didn’t want a known face to play the character of a man who wasn’t impressed with cinema,” she reminisced, amidst planning for the now-famous celebration at the Reliance MediaWorks. Source: Link, On his 70th birthday on Oct 11, Amitabh Bachchan said My family is my wonderful gift: - his wife, children and grandchildren, whose warmth and affection keep him going steady in his personal and professional life. He also gives special importance to his late parents - the renowned poet Harivanshrai Bachchan and his wife Teji. "I look forward to spending time with my family. "My family - my wife Jaya and the two wonderful gifts that she gave me - (son) Abhishek and (daughter) Shweta and now the bahu (daughter-in-law) in the house, Aishwarya, and the little (grand-daughter) Aaradhya... so these are my wonderful gifts and no one can replace them," added the megastar. In his four decades in the Hindi film industry, Amitabh has grown to become one of the most formidable names of the country, known internationally. His active involvement in social issues, as well as his compassionate connect to the masses through TV
show "Kaun Banega Crorepati",  has given viewers and fans a window to his philanthropic side over the years. No wonder his milestone birthday is the talk of the town. If the celebrations were in his hands, the busy star wthough he wants to keep it simple, heould have wanted some rare, quiet time with his family. But close ones of Big B want to make it big - reportedly with a huge dinner party Oct 10, an art show, poster exhibition and book launch on the big day. "My family this time round wants to have celebration on my birthday. I have heard that it might be celebrated on Oct 10 at night. I absolutely don't have any idea about it and nobody is ready to disclose anything about it (to me)," he said. Even though he wants to keep it simple,

he doesn't want to spoil the celebratory mood of  loved ones. "I just run away from this day. Whenever my birthday comes closer, I inform my family members not to do anything special because I don't like it. A small and peaceful family time is more than enough for me. "But many a time, one also has to think about one's wife; so this time round she (Jaya) has thought that there should be some celebration. So she is only doing everything, I have not been informed about any preparations. All I know is something is cooking," added the 69-year-old, who came to be known as Bollywood's angry young man in the 1970s. As a child, Amitabh says, everyone has a reason to look forward to their birthday. "When you are a kid, you enjoy birthdays not because of

anything else but because you are going to get presents and gifts. You look forward to the time what your parents are going to give you. "But as you grow older the whole concept of maturity keeps in. When I entered films, other people were more interested in celebrating my birthday than I was. I still feel it's another year gone by. "I don't see why there should be so much fuss, but sometimes you have to go with what friends, well wishers and family wish to do for you and you comply with that." He shares his personal talks regarding his Inspirations, Journey, Government and Work one-on-one with Faisal Saif: You are the most highest paid actor in the category of 60 Plus..So
what's the Big Deal about it? You still give Tough Competition to other actors, Especially from younger generations..(Jokes) In that case, I am so sorry for that. Most of the Actors takes you as an Inspiration, Who is Big B's inspiration? I have said it many times Dilip (Kumar) Sahab, Waheeda (Rehman) ji because for the amount of work they have done. And in my personal life, I take my parents as my Inspiration as i have learn t from them a lot. You have always said in your films "Kanoon ke Haath bahut lambey hotey hain" (Law has Huge hands), Do you really believe in this after the Delhi-Rape case? Of course yes. But there are different city law's which has different style of working. As far as Delhi Rape case is concerned, The official report says the Law authorities were present there in just 4 minutes. But i feel, It's 'Us' who needs to change. We will have to change ourselves to bring change in the society. So was it the Society's fault here? It's very easy to point a finger on someone and say it's your fault. But we should try to see our fault's too. We must analyze where we are actually going wrong? Despite of being Amitabh Bachchan, Have you ever faced disappoint or let-down by our Indian Law? With the Almighty's blessings, I have never ever came across a situation where i felt disappointed by Indian Law. But i am connected to the news which helps me keeping updated about the latest happening in the world or society. What if you come across such situation? Well, If i come across such situation, I will face the Indian Law with nothing but the 'Truth'. What about the
Bofor's issue? It was in London's court and I faced it with Truth. Me and my family stood with only one weapon with us which was 'Truth'. And we won. And what was your Feeling? This was the first time when i entered a 'Witness-Box' for real, Not like in Films. And as i said earlier, We did not had anything with us but the Truth. Presently, You also seemed to be a Star in Income-Tax department, What are your feelings? (Jokes) Death and IT (Income-Tax) can knock your doors any time. And this is the reality check of Life. How much more do the Audience have to wait to see you back on Big Screen? There's a film which is about to start in the end of January. And within the end of 2013, You will be watching my one or two films hopefully. Why this sudden slow-down? That was because i went through a small surgery so i didn't took any assignments. And plus Kaun Banega Crorepati is about to end, After that i will be concentrating more on Films. Source: Link,  As well Amitabh Bachchan met celebrated Hollywood filmmaker Steven Spielberg, who was here to celebrate the success of his Oscar-winning film Lincoln which is co-produced by his production house DreamWorks and Anil Ambani's . In the same year he also enjoyed critical acclaim and commercial success with films like Mr. Natwarlal,Kaala Patthar and "The Great Gambler". Amitabh was required to use his singing voice for the first time in a song from the film Mr. Natwarlal in which he starred alongside Rekha. His performance in the film saw him nominated for both the Filmfare Best Actor Award and the Filmfare Best Male Playback Awards. In 1979, he also received Best Actor nomination for Kaala Patthar (1979) and then went on to be nominated again in 1980 for the Raj Khosla directed film Dostana, in which he starred opposite Shatrughan Sinha and Zeenat Aman. Dostana proved to be the top grossing film of 1980. In 1981, he starred in Yash Chopra's melodrama film Silsila, where he starred alongside his wife Jaya and Rekha. He required an emergency splenectomy and remained critically ill in hospital for many months, at times close to death. The public response included prayers in temples and offers to sacrifice limbs to save him, while later, there were long queues of well-wishing fans outside the hospital where he was recuperating.[24] Nevertheless, he spent many months recovering and resumed filming later that year after a long period of recuperation. The film was released in 1983, and partly due to the huge publicity of Bachchan's accident, the film was a box office success and the top grossing film that year.[25] The director, Manmohan Desai, altered the ending of Coolie after Bachchan's accident. Bachchan's character was originally intended to have been killed off but after the change of script, the character lived in the end. It would have been inappropriate, said Desai, for the man who had just fended off death in real life to be killed on screen. Also, in the released film the footage of the fight scene is frozen at the critical moment, and a caption appears onscreen marking this as the instant of the actor's injury and the ensuing publicity of the accident. Later, he was diagnosedBachchan Parivar.jpg
